A new boxing star was born at a packed Orient Theatre, when 20-year-old pupil Azinga Fuzile introduced himself to the boxing world.

The Duncan Village southpaw totally outclassed experienced Mdantsane hero Macbute Sinyabi, sending him to the canvas three times en route to wresting his SA featherweight crown.

Fuzile achieved the feat in only his fifth professional fight, propelling himself into the history books.

Despite being buoyed by his ever- loyal fans, including former world champion Zolani Tete, Sinyabi hardly won a round as he fought tentatively, wary of the sneaky left hand from Fuzile.

Fuzile underlined his dominance when he sent Sinyabi crashing through the ropes for the first knockdown when the fight was only four rounds old.

Sinyabi appeared embarrassed as any chance he had of clinging to his throne was gone. Instead of taking his foot off the pedal, Fuzile charged forward, wobbling Sinyabi with a two-punch salvo. Fuzile then retreated, leaving the Mdantsane hero clutching thin air and crashing to the canvas.

All the judges had Fuzile winning the fight. The scores were 117-110, 117-109 and 118-109, signalling the new dawn of boxing.

Other results:

Sinethemba Bam W10 Phila Gola (IBF Youth Junior Featherweight title), Fikile Mlonyeni TKO5 Sonwabo Twatwa (fly), Bangile Cengani TKO3 Xolisa Vukubi.

Pre-medical Weigh-in (Tuesday, 27/09/2016)

Fuzile was overweight at the midweek premedical for his eagerly-anticipated SA featherweight title clash scheduled to be held tomorrow evening. Regulations stipulate that a boxer cannot be over the prescribed weight limit of the following division at the pre-medical examination.

Fuzile came in at 60.64kg, which is heavier than the maximum weight allowed for the junior lightweight division. Boxing SA-Eastern Cape manager Phakamile Jacobs threatened to call off the fight. But fight promoter Ayanda Matiti, who will present the bout under his Xaba Promotions and Events banner, insisted the fight should go ahead as planned.

When the two boxers were given an opportunity to address the crowd, Fuzile clearly had the upper-hand. He had the hall in a frenzy as he promised to end Sinyabi’s career.

“This bra says he will retire from boxing this year and he is correct because I will make him quit,” he said. “I can promise you now that the fight will not last the full distance.”

Despite his obvious battle with the scales, Fuzile still looked ripped and ready for the biggest fight of his short professional career. With only four fights under his belt, the 20-year-old is widely picked to smash Sinyabi to defeat and set his own career into bigger things.

Join us at Orient Theatre in East London tomorrow evening to witness the fighters battle it out in the featherweight division of 57.15kg, with the SA crown at stake!

“The boxing tournament celebrating the birthday of the late struggle icon Nelson Mandela came and went.

There is no doubt that Xaba Promotions and Events (XPE) worked their butts offto ensure the event was a resounding success, and if consideration is taken that the promotions did the work on its own without the aid of an event management company, then kudos to XPE, especially tournament coordinator Sibongile Matiti.

Government heavyweights were in attendance and a host of other officials including the SABC top brass.

The event was well-attended with almost all the tables sold out, while the action in the ring reciprocated its standard.” – Daily Dispatch
